Proximity Switches
Sensors used for “object present” or “object absent” detection without physical contact. They are essential for position sensing, limit detection, and high-speed counting on conveyors.
Pepperl+Fuchs | Inductive & Capacitive Sensors
Pepperl+Fuchs is arguably the most famous name in proximity sensing. They are the primary choice for “specialty” sensing—such as sensors that can survive 250°C ovens, sensors for hazardous explosive zones (NAMUR), or sensors made of solid stainless steel to survive being hit by metal parts.
NBB / NBN Series
Model Number: NBB2-12GM50-E2
The global standard for metal detection; available in M8, M12, M18, and M30 diameters.
Key Technical Specifications:
Many models detect all metals (steel, aluminum, copper) at the exact same distance, eliminating the need for separate sensors for different parts.
Available with a PTFE (Teflon) coating that prevents weld slag from sticking to the sensor face in automotive assembly lines.
Specialized versions can withstand up to 500 bar of pressure, making them suitable for installation directly inside hydraulic cylinders.
CBN / CJ Series
Model Number: CJ10-30GK-WS
Detects liquids, plastics, and glass; adjustable sensitivity to “see through” container walls.
Key Technical Specifications:
Can detect the level of water or chemicals inside a plastic pipe or tank without ever touching the liquid.
Advanced electronics prevent “false triggers” caused by electrostatic discharge or nearby variable frequency drives (VFDs).
Features a small screw on the back to fine-tune the sensing range, allowing it to ignore the container and only “see” the product inside.
Turck | Industrial Proximity Sensors
Turck is a heavyweight in the “Uprox” technology space. They are frequently sourced because their sensors often have significantly longer sensing ranges than standard brands, allowing the sensor to be mounted further away from moving parts to prevent accidental physical damage.
Uprox® Factor 1
Model Number: BI10-M30-AN6X
Highest sensing distances in the industry; immune to magnetic interference from welding.
Key Technical Specifications:
Provides up to 50% more sensing distance than traditional sensors (e.g., an M12 sensor that can “see” 10mm instead of 4mm).
Completely unaffected by the massive magnetic fields generated by electric welding or large motors.
Available in “One-piece” stainless steel housings that are virtually indestructible compared to plastic-faced sensors.
Standard Ferrite Core
Model Number: BC10-P30SR-FZ3X2
Reliable, cost-effective metal detection for standard conveyor and packaging applications.
Key Technical Specifications:
The “active face” of the block sensors can be rotated in 5 different directions, making it easy to mount in awkward corners.
High-visibility corner LEDs allow maintenance teams to see the sensor’s status (Power/Target Detected) from any angle.
Unlike cylindrical sensors that use cables, these often feature a “terminal compartment” so you can wire them directly with standard industrial cable.
